Hola México!!!!
My boyfriend James and myself went to Mexico for our first holiday together. First holidays can be the make or break of a relationship, but don't worry, this one has a happy ending!
It has to be one of my favourite holidays. I wouldn't have minded it being a couple of degrees cooler, but who's complaining? We stayed in the Bluebay Esmerelda Hotel in Playa Del Carman, just down the road from Cancun. As amazing as it was, it started off an absolute nightmare. Our transfer to the hotel never showed up! *Note to self - don't book with STA travel again!* And James' case was delayed in Dallas where we caught a transfer flight. But once we reached the hotel and his case arrived the next day we could relax and enjoy our time in paradise.
All inclusive is definitely the way to go in Mexico. The al le carte restaurants were top notch. Steak night went down especially well - can't beat a decent steak! I'm sad to say the worst meal we had was actually the Mexican, I thought it would be amazing but unfortunately it wasn't to be, but one disappointment in the hotel isn't bad.
A couple of trips I would definitely recommend is a night in Coco Bongos and swimming with sea turtles. Annoyingly the two places where I didn't get any pictures - I was having too much fun in Coco Bongos and I haven't yet invested in a Go Pro to take under water.
Coco Bongo's, if you haven't already heard of it, isn't just any old nightclub, it's a club with a constant show, from dancing, to acrobats, to comedic acts. Absolutely brilliant! We went on a tour taking us to a few other bars beforehand which meant we had a VIP slot waiting for our arrival on one of the balconies. This has to be the way to do it! The main floor gets way too crowded and you'll probably end up queueing for half the show just to get one drink and spill half of it trying to get back to your spot. In VIP we had our own bar and the tour guides would even get them for us if we wished. The best experience in a nightclub by far!
We swam with sea turtles on another trip that also took us to Tulum and snorkeling in a river where James likes to gloat that he swam with a crocodile (it was only a baby one foot long). If we were do it again it would probably have been cheaper to go on our own and we would have had more time to spend in Tulum to enjoy the beach there. But swimming with the turtles was incredible. We had to be very careful not to touch them but some of them were massive.

I fell in love with the strawberry flavoured tequila. Annoyingly we only discovered it on the second to last day so we snuck a bottle home with us. I'm currently savouring it, having a bit at a time I love it that much!
While we were there we celebrated James' birthday and our first year anniversary which made it pretty special. Not sure how we are going to top next years anniversary - Cuba maybe?!!! (I wish)
Have you been to Mexico? What's you holiday destination this year?
Want more holiday posts? Here's my trip to Cyprus.
